Island Golfer July 2007

Hitting over Water

We have looked at the full swing, breaking it down piece by piece. It is time to learn one of the most difficult shots for golfers, hitting over water.

As you see in this picture, my arms are extended towards the target and my weight is on my left foot. These two things are because I am swinging down and through the ball. It will feel like you are throwing the club to the target. (not up to the sky)

Good Follow Through

Most golfers want to help the ball up and over the water. This thought will make you swing up to the ball causing topped and fat shot. As you can see in this picture, my arms are collapsed and my weight is on my right foot. This is from trying to get under the ball.

Bad Follow Through

As you see in this picture, these are 2 balls lined up before impact.

In this photo, you can clearly see that the divot appears AFTER the ball.

Taking a Divot

Swing Thought: DIVOT, DIVOT, DIVOT!!! Always hit the ball first, then the divot!
