Good Practice Time Management
You are a good player who is looking to shave the last few
shots of your score. You need to spend practice time on
the right areas of your game. To do this, you need to start
keeping track of how you spend your strokes on the course.
At the very least, begin tracking how often your tee shots
find the fairway, fairway shots hit the green, your up and
down conversion rate when playing shots from around the
green and how your putter is performing. I use a more comprehensive
stats sheet with my serious students but even just the few
stats from above will start giving you a clear understanding
of which parts of your game are strong and which need work.
The
PGA Tour keeps very detailed statistics on all the players.
Mike Weir and most of the other players use these stats
to their benefit by using them to direct their practice
sessions and time with their coaches.
Being
a better player, you probably already spend practice time
on your short game but you need to make sure your time is
well spent by having an accurate assessment of your game.
